Time and again, Cal has answered the call to serve: After 9/11, he enlisted in the Army Reserve and has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was awarded a bronze star and the MacArthur Leadership Award for his work prosecuting cases of sexual assault and private contractor corruption. The national Veterans group VoteVets has already endorsed his Senate campaign. Overseas, Cal worked to advance democracy -- only to see too many rights and freedoms under assault here at home. Cal knows how important it is we take on political corruption, expand access to health care, lower the cost of education, and act on climate change. He will work hard to support our troops and their families -- and he’s fighting back right now as North Carolina stands to lose $80 million in military funding. I know we can count on him to fight every day for the values we share.
