Wow, what a year 2020 has been and here we are at Giving Tuesday - the first Tuesday of December. Like me, you might be carefully considering where your end-of-year contribution should go and I’m here to share with you why you should support Power Shift Network (PSN)!
What is Power Shift Network? PSN in the only Black-womxn led national organization that focuses solely on cultivating the leadership skills of youth climate justice organizers and right now we all must focus on funding BIPOC-led and womxn-led organizations, particularly organizations that lead from a Black, queer, feminist perspective, like PSN. At its core, PSN cultivates our training, meetings, gatherings and events to be inclusive, and we have intentionally focused on creating spaces that are warm, welcoming, and grounding for organizers who have not always felt welcomed in climate movement spaces.
Why should you give? e are re-launching our Power Shift convergence this April after a 5-year hiatus with our 90+ Network member organizations who will be prepared to absorb the thousands of young people who have been fervently organizing this year to provide COVID mutual aid, protesting to protect Black Lives, and getting out the vote. These powerful youth organizers will be looking for a movement home, and PSN will provide a powerful training space for them to create deep connections, identify their organizing passions, and learn from seasoned activists and movement legends. We need your help to make Power Shift 2021 the powerful battery-charge for the climate movement it’s been in the past, create onramps for these powerful organizers to plug in and create a shared agenda to hold our newly elected officials’ feet to the fire.
What’s in it for you? We recently spoke with a previous Power Shift Convergence attendee and PSN Donor who said that Power Shift Convergence was the first time they had met other young people who thought like them, and helped them find a home in the climate justice movement. A Power Shift 2016 attendee said (paraphrased) “It was my first time meeting other trans folx at Power Shift in Pittsburgh. It was a life-changing experience and it helped me start identifying as genderqueer.” With your generous contribution today, you could help us dream of a new future that centers equity and love, especially during a time when young people feel more disconnected from each other than ever. Without your help, we won’t be able to provide meaningful experiences like these for youth leaders who want to learn with (and from) each other to strengthen the youth climate justice movement.
