On this day 27 years ago, President Bill Clinton signed the
Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act into law. This landmark
piece of bipartisan legislation requires a five-day waiting
period and background checks for anyone purchasing firearms from
a federally licensed dealer, manufacturer, or importer.

The Brady Bill remains an important moment in the fight for
common-sense gun safety legislation. But today, more lives than
ever before are being lost to senseless gun violence.

Mass shootings are on the rise, dangerous individuals are still
getting their hands on guns, and NRA-backed Republicans refuse to
pass common-sense laws to save lives.

The Brady Bill was an important first step, but we have to
close the loopholes in the law and expand its protections to
ensure more Americans are protected from deadly gun violence.

In fact, we can build on the progress of the Brady Bill THIS
JANUARY and pass universal background checks, an assault weapons
ban, and more - but we need to win 2 runoff races in Georgia and
flip the Senate first.

Democrats Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock are locked in
close races with NRA-backed Republicans. This is our ONE CHANCE
to regain control of the Senate, get life-saving legislation out
of Mitch McConnell's graveyard, and FINALLY pass legislation that
has been 27 years in making.
