John: As refugees face a pandemic and increasing legal restrictions around the world, our work supporting their quest for safety could not be more important.
We know you care as deeply as we do about supporting displaced families around the world, so we wanted to give you exclusive early access to this exciting opportunity: In honor of Giving Tuesday, all gifts to HIAS will be matched up to $21,000!
Giving Tuesday is one of the most important days of the year for us at HIAS: It gives us the chance to maximize the impact we can have for refugees and asylum seekers — especially this year, because all gifts will be doubled. So John, if you’ve been waiting for the right time to make a contribution, that time is now — when your gift will go twice as far.
This match is a special one: It’s sponsored by the Hammer Family, in memory of Jeanette and Dr. Alexander Hammer.
An immigrant himself, Alex came to the United States in 1938 after the Nazi regime took power, leaving behind his family in Hungary and an assistant professorship in mechanical engineering in Czechoslovakia. In the U.S., he met Jeanette, the daughter of Hungarian immigrants, and together they raised a family while Alex enjoyed a distinguished career. In his time at the U.S. Department of Defense and the Army Weapons Command, he pioneered simulation testing and technology still in use by the U.S. and its allies today.
His family remains deeply grateful for the life he was able to build thanks to the U.S. immigration system, and they chose to give to HIAS in his honor, so that more people fleeing violence around the world may find safety and opportunity within our borders.
It’s generous supporters like the Hammer Family — and like you — that allow us to fulfill our important mission. Although this year has brought new challenges to our work, HIAS remains fully committed to safely delivering services to refugees during the pandemic — including emergency relief, legal aid, and mental health support. And right now, we’re developing new ways to reach refugees and asylum seekers remotely so we can help them meet their most urgent needs.
As we continue to help displaced children and families overcome mounting hardships in these uncertain times, we’re asking for your support to continue this crucial work. So please, don’t miss your chance to give and have every dollar matched for refugees ahead of Giving Tuesday:
Thank you,
