Dear Friend,
Big news: Tomorrow Congress is
holding a hearing on statehood for the District for the first time
in
25 years. I'll be at the Rayburn House Building tomorrow with
Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Mayor Bowser, my D.C. Council
colleagues, statehood advocates, and hundreds of District residents
who want to see an end to undemocratic taxation without
representation.
It’s time to dust off your
statehood pins and t-shirts because we need your support to make
statehood a reality, and tomorrow is just the beginning! Here’s how
you can support the call for D.C. statehood from wherever you
are:
Attend In-Person:
Thursday, September 19, at 10:00am in the Rayburn House Office Building (45 Independence
Ave. NW, Room 2154)
If you plan to attend in-person,
it’s best to take public transportation. The nearest Metro station is
Capitol South, and the entrance to the Rayburn Building is on
Independence Ave. All attendees must go through a security screening,
so note that there might be long lines. You’ll want to get there
early! The building opens at 7:30am.
Stop by a Rally: Show your support, grab a button, and take
a few pictures at one of these events:
Tweet Your Support: We want #DCstatehood to trend tomorrow when we #ShowUp4DC! Tweet
a picture or two to help us keep the momentum going during the hearing
and throughout the day tomorrow.
We’re taxpayers, we participate in
military service, and we’re voters who deserve full representation.
Nothing less. I look forward to
seeing a great outpouring of support tomorrow!
Thanks so much for adding your
voice.
Elissa.
