If you haven’t been following the news closely this week, a lot has happened. And it’s not good for our democracy. First, we learned Sen. Lindsey Graham called the Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to pressure him to throw out legitimately-cast mail-in ballots. He actually asked the (Republican) Secretary of State if he could throw out every mail-in ballot in counties Biden won because more voters successfully — and legally — were able to correct non-matching signatures on rejected ballots before the deadline, than voters in counties Trump won. Thankfully, Raffensperger said no — and then told the press what happened. But this campaign to overturn our democratic election does not stop there, or with Sen. Graham. The Washington Post reported that Donald Trump called multiple Michigan election officials to pressure them to rescind their certification of the election — and illegally throw Michigan to Trump after Joe Biden won the state by over 150,000 votes. Today, Republican state lawmakers from Michigan are at the White House as part of this pressure campaign. It’s clear Donald Trump is willing to tear down our democracy in order to remain in power. For the sake of Democracy, we can’t let any of these criminally authoritarian actions go without consequences.
Trump and his cronies have made it perfectly clear they have no regard for the rule of law or for our democracy. They want power, no matter the cost. That’s why the next Attorney General must restore the rule of law and hold them accountable for attempting to overturn a democratic election. Thank you for standing up today and demanding we restore faith in our democracy. — Charles Charles Chamberlain, Chair ![]() |
