This just in: socialism is the future.Silicon Valley DSA Newsletter[[PERMALINK_FULL_LINK]]Silicon Valley DSA. Branches: Lower Peninsula, San Jose [[link removed]]Hi John!

In case you missed our recent election update email [[link removed]], socialist momentum is building across the country. Socialist candidates are prevailing over other Democratic incumbents and Republican opponents, and DSA-endorsed legislation is finding support at the city, district, state, and national level.

The moral of the story? Socialism is popular.

Many, many, people believe in the work we do, and support both candidates and legislation that pushes back against capitalism and the inequalities it brings. We may be framed as a fringe group, particularly by the establishment, but we are instead a powerful community that is ready to stand up for the working class.

We’re getting louder, we’re gaining more power, and it’s clear that politicians are getting concerned. They wouldn’t try to diminish us if we didn’t pose a threat to the way things are conducted.

And we’re only growing from here. Join DSA today [[link removed]] and come to our Newbie Orientation on Saturday [[link removed]]!

To talk next steps on our electoral work, join us at our 2020 Electoral Debrief [[link removed]], also on Saturday. Keep reading for info on Mutual Aid fundraisers (paint watercolors with comrades) and more!

In Solidarity,
Your SV DSA Newsletter Team 🌹

UPDATES
GET INVOLVED!
Whether you’re new to socialism, new to Silicon Valley DSA, or just trying to figure out how you can help, our New Member Orientation [[link removed]] is a great place to start! Our next orientation is Saturday, November 21st at 2pm. Join for an introduction on what democratic socialism is, what your local chapter is up to, and how you can help! There will also be a Q&A session for all your burning socialist questions.

ADEM INFO SESSION
The California ADEM elections decide who from each area of the state will lead the state Democratic Party. We’re working to run as many DSA members as we can to shape the state party towards true democratic ends: towards Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, towards abolition and worker power. This event on Thursday, November 19th at 7:30pm [[link removed]] will serve as a primer to any DSA member interested in running to be a delegate to the California Democratic Party.

SUPPORT SOUTH BAY MUTUAL AID
The South Bay Mutual Aid [[link removed]] fund is aiming to raise $30K in 30 days in November, and we need your help! Do you have a couple dollars you can kick their way, or have friends who might? Share their Insta posts to help spread the word. South Bay Mutual Aid is a Santa Clara County-based initiative aiming to provide relief to those in the community impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

Are you an aspiring artist, or are you for a fun way to be involved in mutual aid? Join one of SBMA's upcoming watercolor fundraisers! At our open paint nights, you’ll be painting along with one of our mutual aid volunteers who is also an artist. We’ll be painting beautiful still lifes, landscapes, and more.

* Saturday, 11/21. 6-7:30pm. [[link removed]]
* Tuesday, 11/24. 6-7pm. [[link removed]]

HEALTHCARE WORKING GROUP
Join the healthcare working group on Friday, November 20th at 7pm [[link removed]] if you are interested in Medicare for All and health justice! We will be discussing our upcoming Medicare for All webinar, planning meets with state and local officials, and furthering our mutual aid efforts.

LABOR ZINE AND SURVEY
Join the labor working group on Saturday, November 21st at noon [[link removed]] as we work on two projects, a worker coop zine to teach folks about what coops are and why we should support them, and a survey to learn more about the labor organizing needs of SV DSA members.

DEFUND THE FREMONT PD
We know the Fremont Police Department is bad, and we’ve begun building our case about a better model around public safety, but we want to get all the facts! So join us to research the Fremont Police Department [[link removed]] on Saturday, November 21st at 1pm.
