This is why I never say 'no' to my kids. |
One of the great things about cooking is that it allows us to bring order into our lives. No matter how easy or difficult the meal is to prepare, there are ingredients and instructions. Chop this. Add that. Mix these things together. I don’t know about you. But right now, anything that offers a semblance of order to life is a win. We’re not alone in this sentiment. “Cooking is the best way I can emote my feelings for my family and communicate,” David Chang, the chef, host, and culinary mastermind recently told Fatherly. “It’s just one of those things. It’s giving someone pleasure, not just sustenance. There are very few things I can control in my world right now. But I can make a good meal and make people feel good.” We recently put together a collection of family recipes from chefs, celebrities, and regular dads called “The Dad Special”. Featuring snacks, easy-to-make weeknight meals, desserts, and more, the recipes are those that get kids excited, that everyone looks forward to, and that have a backstory, even if said backstory is simply, “I threw together things we had in the pantry and everyone freaking loved it — so I did it again.” The collection —which includes David Chang’s dynamite recipe for a salmon rice bowl he often makes his family — is meant to provide meal-inspiration as well as honor time spent at the table. We hope it does. |
