The biggest news from the presidential race today

Battleground states

• National Review has an overview of the vote count in battleground states and the threshold for recounts as of this morning.

• Republican lawyer Harmeet Dhillon has an overview of the potential legal challenges from the Trump campaign that are ahead.

President Trump

• President Trump reportedly plans to host campaign-style rallies as he pursues legal challenges to the election results.

• Ahead of the recount expected in Georgia, the Trump campaign announced Rep. Doug Collins will lead their team there. Rep. Collins finished third in the U.S. Senate run-off, which will go to a January 5 election between Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Rev. Raphael Warnock.

• Over the weekend, 39 House Republicans asked Attorney General Barr to investigate "allegations of potential voter fraud" in the presidential election.

• The Trump campaign submitted an affidavit to the Department of Justice. The affidavit is reportedly from a Nevada election worker who "claims to have witnessed irregularities."

Joe Biden

• Biden announced his COVID-19 advisory board this morning.

• The Daily Wire reports that Sen. Mitt Romney has allegedly been asked to serve as Secretary Health and Human Services in a Biden Administration.

• Biden's campaign manager pledged that he would "make good" on his "progressive and aggressive agenda."

Georgia will go to a recount and determine the U.S. Senate majority in January.

"With just Loeffler and Warnock on the ballot – not Trump or Biden – it’s difficult to see how Democrats make up ground. Not as many people will vote in the runoffs as they did in the presidential election, and that usually helps Republicans." (Daily Wire)

• Both U.S. Senate races in Georgia will go to a run-off election on January 5. That will likely determine which party holds the majority in the U.S. Senate, so you can expect to see political groups moving quickly to start campaign work.

• The two Republicans in the run-off races are favored, as the Daily Wire reports.

• Remember, too: the Georgia Secretary of State (who is a Republican) previously announced that the Georgia presidential race will go to a recount. The state awards 16 votes for the Electoral College.

Americans (and the stock market!) celebrate news of promising COVID vaccine.

"President Trump and President-elect Joe Biden both celebrated the news that a coronavirus vaccine being developed by Pfizer and BioNTech was found to be more than 90% effective in preventing COVID-19 in their Phase 3 clinical trial. [...] 'STOCK MARKET UP BIG, VACCINE COMING SOON. REPORT 90% EFFECTIVE. SUCH GREAT NEWS!' Trump tweeted Monday morning." (Fox News)

• As President Trump had said at the final debate, news seems promising that a COVID vaccine may receive approval this year.

• Today Pfizer announced a 90% effective vaccine for COVID. Worth noting for conservatives: one pro-life group has confirmed that it is not made with fetal cells.

• In response to the exciting news, the stock market surged.
