Kamala Harris as VP is good for kids. Here's why.

When the Biden-Harris victory was declared, many, many reactions poured out. The partisan tensions running up to this election have spread like wildfire, engulfing the nation in distrust, fear, and anger. No one can claim to be untouched by this election and, as such, the reaction to its end was emotional. From living rooms to the streets, on social media and in family phone calls, the feelings flowed. News anchors, the deliverers of the message, brought both facts and emotion to the American people. Notable among them was CNN’s Van Jones who offered the most candid version of the news on television. Fighting back tears, Jones, a father of two, delivered an emotional off-the-cuff speech about what Biden’s victory means to him as a father as well as to so many people who felt afraid, and to the soul of our nation.

“It’s easier to be a parent this morning,” Jones began. “It’s easier to be a dad. It’s easier to tell your kids ‘Character matters. Telling the truth matters. Being a good person matters.’”

You should watch it in its entirety. It was a wonderful speech, one made all the more potent because it happened in real time and carried the raw emotion that so many are feeling right now. Despite where you fall politically, Van’s message should resonate.s. Decency matters. Kindness matters. Respect, both for one another and institutions like science, matters. They should matter in politics and they should matter in life. No matter what side of this divided country they’re on, all parents raise kids hoping they’ll be good people. It’s something we can all agree on.
