Welcome to another edition of FT Now! What a week! If you're over
presidential election news and commentary, then you've come to the
right place! This week we're leading with some good news you may have
missed: Republican governors had a pretty good night on Tuesday - even
flipping Montana from blue to red with Governor-elect Greg Gianforte.
The Democratic Party's infighting has already started and we are here
for it, popcorn in hand. Which side will win out? The radical,
progressive wing of the party? Or the almost non-existent moderate
coalition? Time will tell. Last but not least - and something
non-election related - New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed a law banning
plastic and paper bags in his state. What's one more unnecessary
regulation? Read below for more!

Republican Governors Are Leading The American Comeback
What Happened:
Republican governors had a good night on Tuesday, holding onto all
incumbents and flipping Montana from blue to red. The number of GOP
governors in the country now stands at 27.
Why You Should Care:
If we've learned nothing else in 2020, it's this: State leadership
matters. Governors matter. States led by GOP governors continue to
thrive in all areas, and voters have taken notice.
What Happens Next:
: As far as elections go, all eyes are on New Jersey and Virginia in
2021! (Too soon?)

House Democrats Blame Losses on Polls, Message, Even Trump
What Happened:
House Democrats held a 3-hour long call on Thursday to discuss
Tuesday's election results. In a sure sign of what's to come,
members didn't hesitate to point fingers, with some accusing the
progressive wing of damaging the party with their socialist agenda and
talks of defunding the police.
Why You Should Care:
Many on the left predicted a "blue wave" in 2020, but that just didn't
happen. The Democrats' majority in the House actually narrowed and
while they may be confused about why, we sure aren't. Americans
don't want socialism. Period.
What Happens Next:
Expect more infighting, but not a whole lot of honest introspection.

Gov. Phil Murphy Signs NJ Plastic, Paper Bag Ban Into Law
What Happened:
The headline says it all! The law bans both plastic and paper single-use
bags, along with food containers and cups made of polystyrene foam
throughout New Jersey.
Why You Should Care:
It's pretty fitting - and not surprising - that while Americans are
concerned about the economy, Democrat Governor Phil Murphy is concerned
with imposing more burdensome regulations.
What Happens Next:
The law goes into effect in May 2022. Oh, and restaurants will be
allowed to provide plastic straws only upon request starting in November
2021.
