We have our 46th President. Like you, I am taking time to celebrate. 

Celebrate this sad, harmful, and divisive chapter in our shared history coming to an end.

Celebrate with those who have endured dog days for so long.   

Celebrate the transformational change we make possible.  

Let’s be clear about what transformation looks like: A commitment to count every vote.  A commitment to make sure that every community is heard. A commitment to women leading the charge. A commitment to the power and perseverance of BIPOC.

I am proud to welcome to the highest office in the land the son of Scranton who knows what it means to be a single parent, and the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants – the first woman and woman of color in our nation’s history – our Madam Vice President.

You know, for years, science took a backseat when we needed it most and the wealth gap widened. Children were separated from their parents and the democratic process threatened. The new administration will be forced to unravel what has kept us down, and set us on a promising path toward a more perfect union.

Our country is rattled and reeling, and I expect there will be many more challenges and complications in the day and months ahead. But our commitment to what is just and good will not be hindered or stifled ever again.

Celebrate tonight, my friends, and then, get ready. There’s work to be done. We’re all in it together.
