Election week is finally here, and the mood is like:

Ahhhhh!

It's natural to feel on edge right now, especially given the importance of this election. But we also need to be patient while elected officials take the time necessary to make sure every eligible vote is counted accurately.

That means we likely will not know election results on Tuesday night, and that's okay.

Voters from every corner of the country are turning out to make their voices heard - including record numbers of early and absentee voters.

It's incredible!

It's also a fact that absentee ballots take longer to count because of security measures to verify the accuracy of those ballots. Some states can't even start counting absentee ballots until after polls have closed on election night. Plus, due to the pandemic, election officials will be working with reduced staff.

We need to work together during the coming days to help reassure our family, friends and neighbors that waiting a few more days for results is a good thing. It means that election officials are doing their jobs, as they have in every previous election, and that every vote is being counted.

One way you can help spread this message is to turn a voter selfie into a public service announcement on social media.

Here's how:
* Take a selfie wearing your "I Voted" sticker.
* Post it on social media with a message about realistic election night expectations.
* Be sure to tag @NPWF so we can share it too!
