As the DLCC's Virginia State Advisor, my primary job is to make sure we're on track to win in November. I spend most of my days talking with the many candidates, staff, and volunteers who are hard at work to flip Virginia blue. With just 51 days to go, I wanted to give you a quick update on what I'm seeing on the ground.
Virginia By The Numbers
The State of the Races
Republicans have made inroads in some critical districts, including HD-85, HD-40, and HD-94. That last district is one of the most crucial – in 2017, it came down to a tied vote that ultimately gave control of the House of Delegates to the GOP.

We're ramping up spending as Election Day approaches to make sure that Virginians know the facts about the candidates, but time is running short.
Right-Wing Money
As you can see above, Republicans are stopping at nothing – national money is pouring in to try to keep this legislature red. One of the biggest spenders of all is the NRA, who recently dropped $200,000 into one district – their largest single donation in Virginia since folks started tracking this data in the 1990s.
This right-wing spending is a real problem. We have to be able to compete, or we risk Republicans flooding the airwaves in the final days before Election Day and overwhelming our candidates.
Get Out The Vote
The most critical time of any election (except for Election Day, of course!) is right before Election Day, when volunteers hit the streets to knock on doors and remind their neighbors to get to the polls. This week, I'm in Richmond (I'm writing this from a Panera) with the dedicated folks who have spent months preparing for Get Out The Vote, helping put final plans in place.
Overwhelmingly, I heard from people on the ground that while they're well on their way to meeting their Get Out The Vote goals, they need an additional push if they're going to turn out all the voters they'll need to win.
There's definitely a path to victory here, but we can't let up for a single minute if we're going to flip Virginia blue. We need your help.
