With 8 days to Election Day 2020, here's the news that you'll want to know:

(1) WATCH: Joe Biden seems to confuse President Trump with President George W. Bush -- saying "four more years of George, ah, George"

(2) report: "2020 polls in battleground states nearly identical to 2016, according to RCP"

(3) Biden is off the campaign trail again today

WATCH: Joe Biden seems to confuse President Trump with President George W. Bush at campaign event.

Joe Biden, as quoted: "And the character of the country in my view is literally on the ballot. What kind of country we’re gonna be? Four more years of George, ah, George … he uh, gonna find ourselves in a position where if Trump gets elected we’re going to be in a different world.'" (Daily Caller)

• What's happening: Joe Biden seemed to confuse President Trump with President George W. Bush at a campaign event over the weekend.

Speaking on video, Biden said: "Four more years of George, ah, George … he uh, gonna find ourselves in a position where if Trump gets elected we’re going to be in a different world." You can watch the video here.

• What's at stake: This isn't the first time Biden has made a serious gaffe on the campaign trail, including:

-- Biden recently said that his campaign had built "the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics."

-- Biden read "end of quote" while reading aloud from a teleprompter speech.

But these mistakes seem minor compared to Biden mistaking the name of the current president -- and his current opponent. It also reinforces a key point of President Trump and his campaign: that Biden is not up for the job as president.

President Trump weighed in on the story via Twitter: "Joe Biden called me George yesterday. Couldn’t remember my name. Got some help from the anchor to get him through the interview. The Fake News Cartel is working overtime to cover it up!"

Report: "2020 polls in battleground states nearly identical to 2016, according to RCP"

"The polls in 2020 are nearly identical to those in 2016, according to Real Clear Politics, which keeps a running average of all polls. In the top battleground states — North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Arizona and Wisconsin — Biden currently holds a four-point lead in the average. In 2016, Clinton held a 3.5-point lead. That means there’s just a .5-point difference this time around." (Daily Wire)

• What's happening: Real Clear Politics -- which tracks the average among all polls, rather than a single poll -- found that Joe Biden's lead in key battleground states is within 0.5% of Hillary Clinton's lead in 2016.

• What's at stake: First, as with so much else in 2020, this election is unprecedented -- in expected voter turnout, in a surge of early and absentee voting, and in the legal battles that have defined voting rules and procedure changes.

That's likely why even Biden's own campaign manager tweeted: "But there is still a long way to go in this campaign, and we think this race is far closer than folks on this website [Twitter] think. Like a lot closer."

Second, although we all remember that pollsters and the media got it wrong in the lead-up to the 2016 election, it's helpful to look at how wrong the predictions were.

The Monday before Election Day, one news organization reported that Hillary Clinton had a "90 percent chance" of winning the election, "roughly similar to last week's odds" -- and would likely carry the Electoral College with 303 votes.

President Trump and his campaign staff have long argued that it's 2016 all over again.

As Corey Lewandowski wrote for Real Clear Politics this summer, as he made that case: "The historic levels of enthusiasm behind President Trump’s re-election stand in stark contrast to the tepid support for Biden."

With 8 days left, Joe Biden is off the campaign trail again today.

"Their spouses are out holding events and campaigning, but Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris are not showing their faces once again on Monday. Eight days before the election.'" (Townhall)

• What's happening: Once again -- and bizarrely, in our opinion -- Joe Biden is off the campaign trail today, just eight days out from the election.

In contrast, as Townhall reports, President Trump will host three rallies today.

• What's at stake: There's no rule about how many campaign events a candidate must hold.

But Biden, largely absent from the campaign trail this summer and early fall, just seems to be less visible as Election Day draws closer.

As National Review noted, at this time in 2016, Hillary Clinton held 17 events in four states.
