[[link removed]]Dear friend and fellow sojourner,

We knew from the 2016 presidential election and the 2018 midterm elections that
we would need to protect our right to vote this year. And as time goes on, we
are encountering more and more threats to that right. The obstacles keep piling
up, from fake ballot boxes disguised as official ones in California, to ballot
box limits in Texas.

But we cannot lose hope. The key to fighting voter suppression is knowing that
we are not powerless – even those of us who live in states where voter
suppression is most egregious and deeply rooted.

To quote Stacey Abrams, from the cover story of the September-October issue of Sojourners:

So often we rail against folks for being apathetic; they’re not apathetic—they
are afraid. They have been despairing for so long. They have been desperate for
so long. They are afraid of hope. They are afraid of faith. … It is our
responsibility to go to those people who are sad. … And if we want them to take
their power, we’ve got to talk to them about power. No euphemisms about “you
should vote because someone died”; you need to vote so we can live .

This is why we at Sojourners are working to protect the vote in November. This
is why we are working with our partners and with activists like you to equip
faith leaders, prevent voter suppression and intimidation, and change the
narrative around this election – centering racial justice in our national
discourse, and reframing racism as the primary religious issue in this election
campaign.

We need to empower all God’s people in this country to vote in November. Click here to join in.

[[link removed]]Here are just a few examples of the voter protection work in your state and
across America that your gift will support:

* Recruiting and resourcing “election protection chaplains” for the Turnout
Sunday/Lawyers and Collars campaign, to provide moral and legal support at 60
polling places of vulnerable voters in 9 battleground states
* Hosting “Reimagine,” a series of women-led conversations at the intersection
of faith, politics, and race, to prepare us to keep our dreams for justice
alive regardless of election outcome
* Publishing toolkits and resources for activism around the election, such as
the cover story of the November issue of Sojourners Magazine, “A Roadmap for
Moral Resistance”
* Our Faith-Rooted Advocacy Network (FRAN), with more than 2,700 advocates
committing to show up at critical moments and have courageous conversations
across divisions, on issues such as voter protection

To quote Sojourners President-elect Rev. Adam Russell Taylor: “Safeguarding
against a stolen or tainted election is not a partisan exercise. It is about
exercising our faith and protecting our democracy.”

This November, we will raise our voices, and we will vote. Join in and donate today.
