If you’re like me, Friend, you’re thrilled to see millions of Americans who’ve never voted before in their lives getting registered this year -- doing their civic duty and participating in our democracy.
It’s nothing short of inspiring to hear so many of our neighbors saying: “We won’t let anything, not even a nationwide pandemic, take away our rights.”
But some politicians see those new voters as a threat -- deploying devious and intimidating tactics aimed at disenfranchising many eligible voters. And, particularly cynically, many have exploited the COVID-19 pandemic to impose even further needless obstacles to voting.
I'm sure you've seen the news coverage -- last-minute voting changes, attacks on vote-by-mail, hours-long waits to vote, and limiting voters' options to force them to choose between their health, and their right to vote. This doesn't belong in our democracy -- and with your help, we can fight back.
Here's why this matters: when anyone is blocked from exercising the right to vote, they’ve effectively lost their most precious right. But I believe -- and I hope you do too -- that every voter deserves a say in our future, and our democracy is stronger when we can all be heard.
Unfortunately, this year voters will face unprecedented challenges -- both new problems caused by the pandemic, and recurring issues that we’ve pushed back on for years.
Friend, you and I must have their backs. That’s what our Election Protection program is all about -- thousands of ordinary Americans stepping up to serve their communities, and make sure every voter gets to be heard.
Our in-person volunteers are safely observing polling places while following public health guidelines -- while thousands more volunteer from home to rapid-response text voters the information they need or monitor social media for online disinformation.
Make no mistake. Election Protection is one of the most important things we do here at Common Cause. It’s necessary work to keep the promise of a government of, by and for the people. And it’s never been more important than it is right now.
That's why I'm glad to share that a Common Cause supporter -- who shares your conviction and mine that we must all do what we can for democracy right now -- has agreed to MATCH all contributions made between now and the end of the month.
That's right, Friend -- your contribution will make double the impact to power our Election Protection work in these critical final days. From our comprehensive, thousands-strong volunteer program, to our ability to litigate to protect every voter's rights -- we can't do any of this work without your help.
That's why I’m asking for your urgent, tax-deductible support to make sure our Election Protection 2020 effort is our strongest ever. Your help will make it even stronger.
Your immediate contribution will help ensure we can mobilize as many volunteers as possible -- to assist voters from home or serve at local polling places from the safety of their cars. Your help will go a long way towards making sure everyone has a fair say in our nation’s future.
Friend, we can’t afford to let vote-suppressing politicians succeed in rigging our system or stealing our elections.
Please help. The stakes have never been so high.
Thanks for your support,
