The same national political trends that threaten our country's democracy are a force here in Washington. My opponent, Loren Culp, is using Trump's playbook at every turn -- with in-person rallies, disturbing rhetoric, and refusing to wear a mask. Beating back the national trend of that brand of hateful politics must start right here in Washington.

Republicans across the country know all of this. They know that the progress we make here affects them at home, too. So they've been flooding my race with grassroots money to support my extremist, Trump-y opponent. My seat is one of only a handful of governorships Republicans (and the very well-funded Republican Governors Association) can focus on, and they're hoping state races like mine fly under the radar until it's just too late to do anything about it.
