Hi everyone,

This Saturday, we will be holding our October General Meeting. The General Meeting is the most important meeting we hold each month - it's the highest decision making body in the whole chapter. This is where we all come together to make collective decisions about how to proceed - what kind of work we should take on, how we should structure ourselves, what our political values should be. If you can only make one DSA meeting each month, you should come to this one and make your voice heard! Here is the draft agenda for the meeting, with links to proposals that will be considered.

Also, the DSA 100K recruitment drive is still underway. Last week, we held a call with DSA members from across Louisiana to talk about building a mass movement for socialism in the South. It's not too late to be a part of the recruitment drive! Have you signed the 100K pledge yet? You can do so here! Recruit three members to DSA and not only will you build working class power, you'll get a cool pink hat! Once you've signed the pledge, generate your unique join link here.

But it's not enough to grow - we have to grow with intentionality, with the goal of building a truly multiracial working class organization. If you're interested in joining a conversation about what that means and how we can best approach that, we'll be having a strategy call on intentional recruitment this Thursday at 7:30 PM. Register for that call here!

And lastly, don't forget to vote! Early voting has already started. Check out our voter guide here for more information about what will be on your ballot. And if you're interested in helping us get water bottles, snacks, sunscreen, and other amenities to folks who are waiting in long poll station lines, email [email protected] to get connected with that work!

Solidarity,

DSA New Orleans Local Council

P.S. New to DSA? Check out our chapter's new member resources here. You can also always email [email protected] with questions about how to get involved or about the work our chapter is doing.

P.P.S. Not yet a member? The most important tool that the working class has is organization. We're strong when we fight together. We have to build a durable, mass political organization to wield the kind of power we need to win real change in our society. If you aren't a dues-paying member of DSA yet, join here!

National DSA Upcoming Events

What can Workers Do to Stop Trump from Stealing the Election? For the past several months politicians like Bernie Sanders have been ringing alarm bells about the very real possibility that Donald Trump and his administration may attempt to contest the results of the U.S. election and refuse to leave office. In recent years, we have seen that when our national and state politics fail to function democratically, the only thing that can put democratic control back in the hands of the people, is working people. We know that only workers taking mass action can force legislators to respect democracy and we must be prepared to act if Trump refuses a peaceful transition of power. Join us for a discussion with labor leaders who have organized mass worker actions in response to political crises. We will review what workers have done to fight off attacks from our own government in the past and provide tools to prepare to fight off future ones. Will you join us? Register for the call here. Tuesday, October 20th @ 7 PM CST.
