Special Session

The 2020 Special Session that began in August is starting to wrap up. I'm proud to say that two of my bills have been passed by the House and the Senate, and are headed to the Governor's desk for signature.

SB 5018: This bill allows the Virginia Parole Board to consider compassionate release for geriatric and terminally ill prisoners who are no longer a threat to society.

SB 5088: This bill incorporated my own bill SB 5086, and requires landlords to offer their tenants a payment plan in order to avoid eviction if their ability to pay rent is affected by COVID.

In addition, the General Assembly has delivered on the vast majority of our criminal justice reform and police reform priorities for the special session, as you can see in the graphic below.
