Shocked. Enraged. Infuriated. That's how we feel about what happened in North Carolina today.

Earlier this morning, the House Republican speaker held a surprise vote to OVERRIDE the Democratic governor's budget veto.

Instead of respecting our democratic process, the speaker held the vote during a 9/11 ceremony – with barely half the chamber present.

Unfortunately, this is just the latest string of egregious Republican stunts. The GOP is testing how far they can stretch our democracy before it breaks – and if we care about defending our democracy from right-wing lawmakers, we have to stand up right now.

What proposals did Republicans vehemently disapprove? Joining 37 other states in expanding Medicaid. A bigger pay raise for teachers. Billions in federal funding. To be perfectly blunt, this is nothing more than Republican political puppetry.

Even news outlets are calling out the Republican power grab. The News & Observer wrote: "Not only was the House vote dishonest, it was carried out by a Republican majority that courts have repeatedly found to have gained seats through illegal gerrymandering."

This is a crisis – and Republicans are exploiting it with everything they've got. It is imperative we have the backs of our state Democrats and counter GOP power grabs like these.
