This is abosolutely disgusting –

Moments ago – after claiming there would be no votes this morning, and taking advantage of Democratic attendance at a 9/11 memorial – North Carolina Republicans forced a deceptive surprise vote to override the governor’s budget veto and block health care for 500,000 North Carolinians.

There’s no way around it: This move is simply abhorrent. Representative Deb Butler – one of the few Democrats in the chamber at the time of the vote – said it best: “If this is the way you believe democracy works, shame on you.”

If you’re as outraged as we are, rush a donation to tell the GOP we won’t stand for this behavior anywhere. They’ve stooped to a new low, and we have fight back urgently to punish them at the ballot-box in every state >>

The GOP clearly planned this well in advance. After repeatedly placing the override vote on the calendar, they knew they didn’t have the support to pass it openly – so they waited for a moment when they could gather all their own members and make quorum, but when many Democrats would be missing.

And to top it all off, Democrats who protested this underhanded move were threatened with arrest. This is not how our democracy is supposed to work.

Tactics like this make a sham out of our system of government and are designed to completely undermine the will of the people – all to BLOCK people from obtaining affordable health care.
