John,
Last night, I participated in a debate with my four opponents in the general election, and I was appalled to hear what they had to say on climate change:
“Right now, we don’t have enough research that points to a specific reason as to why [climate change is happening]...”
“As far as climate change goes...nothing has changed…”
They couldn’t be more wrong. Climate change is real, it is largely caused by human activity, and it is an urgent threat to the entire planet. We cannot afford to have more leaders in Congress who deny this reality.
According to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, we only have 10 years remaining to prevent irreversible damage to Earth due to global warming. We must address this crisis with the urgency the moment demands.
We need a Green New Deal to create 20 million good-paying jobs while transitioning America to 100% renewable energy.
We must end corporate tax cuts to fossil fuel companies and invest in new, sustainable infrastructure across the country.
And we must limit our reliance on automobiles and invest in public transportation powered by clean, renewable energy sources, especially in communities like ours where so many workers drive into New York City every day.
My opponents complained that addressing climate change is expensive, but if we want to ensure a livable future for young people and future generations, we can’t afford to wait another minute to fight the climate crisis.
I cannot do this alone. We need you in this fight.
Onward,
Mondaire
