Still Time To Participate In Lit Drop: Pickup TImes Today




We need your help to get information to voters across New Hanover County by participating in a lit drop.This can be done at your convenience, at any time of day, since we aren’t trying to reach voters face-to-face.  Unlike canvassing we are not attempting direct contact with the voter; we simply hang the literature on the door and move on to the next house. Additionally, please wear a mask and wear gloves and/or carry hand sanitizer to use as needed.

Pick up a list of voters and packages of candidate literature at two locations in New Hanover County:


County Wide Lit Drop (except Carolina Beach and Kure Beach): New Hanover County Democratic Party HQ: 5041 New Center Drive. Time: 9 AM-12 PM and 4 PM-7 PM.

For Kure Beach and Carolina Beach lit drop (Precinct Fp08 and FP03):1604 Bertram Dr, Carolina Beach, NC 28428-4143 Time: 9 AM- 12 PM.





When picking up materials for the lit drop, please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Weather permitting, we will be distribute lists and literature packets outside in a drive-through distribution in the parking lot. One-Stop Voting Opens Thursday; Runs Through October 31



(From the New Hanover County Board of Elections) One-stop early voting (commonly known as “early voting”) allows any registered voter to cast a ballot in person on select days prior to Election Day. One-Stop voting allows voters an opportunity to vote when it best suits their individual schedules.  For the 2020 General Election, there are 17 days of early voting, beginning Thursday, October 15, and ends Saturday, October 31. During early voting, voters may cast a ballot at any early voting site in their county. This is different from Election Day when registered voters must vote at their assigned precinct. Residents who are not yet registered may register and vote the same day during One-Stop voting. Identification and proof of residency will be required to register at early voting.

 

There are nine sites (click here for a map) scattered around the county. Voting hours are 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be extended weekend hours on Saturday, October 31, last day of One-Stop Voting when the voting sites will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Click here for a printable document listing the times and locations for One-Stop Voting. Don't Forget BallotTrax Tool to Track Your Mail-in Ballot

 



The State Board of Elections has added a great new tool voters can use to check on absentee ballots. It is called BallotTrax. Many voters have already reported on Facebook that BallotTrax has increased their confidence that their ballot will be counted. It will tell you:


Has your ballot been mailed to you?

Has the Post Office received your returned ballot?

Has your ballot been received by the Board of Elections?

Has your ballot been accepted by the Board of Elections?


You can check on your absentee ballot here. 

 

If you are voting by mail, make sure to fill out the ballot and ballot envelope completely, then mail it in or take it to the Board of Elections from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Click the image for a short video on the required envelope items. Tell your friends!


 

Souls to the Polls Event Sunday







 

Black Voters Matter, New Hanover County NAACP, and the North Carolina Black Alliance are inviting citizens to march or ride to the Early Voting site at the Wilma W. Daniels Art Gallery on the downtown campus of Cape Fear Community College on Sunday October 18. Souls to the Polls is an effort to involve churches and other non-profit organizations in efforts to assist and encourage voters to participate in the election process. This week's march begins at noon at the St. Stephen AME Church at 501 Red Cross Street, and will proceed to the Daniels Gallery at 200 Hanover Street. Organizers are asking participants to ride along or march from the church to the gallery. Anyone needing a ride to the event can request one by calling 910-386-1015.



 

 



'Preserving the Environment' Is A Priority for State Rep Candidate Adam Ericson




"We need to ensure we have dedicated conservation efforts to keep our beaches, drinking water, and coastal way of life safe for our children and families," Adam Ericson said. "That means passing legislation mandating accountability for environmental contamination and shifting the cost of cleaning up pollution to the polluters themselves, instead of the taxpayer."

Adam, a civics teacher and lacrosse coach at New Hanover High School, is running against Republican Ted Davis Jr., to represent the 20th District in the North Carolina House of Representative. Adam, who also volunteers with Meals on Wheels, has lived in New Hanover County for 15 years. He and his wife Tina have two children. Adam holds a master's degree in education from UNC Wilmington. 

Adam says his his top priorities are holding corporate polluters accountable; improving funding for our public schools so our students get the education they deserve while keeping them safe and healthy, and bringing our hard-earned tax dollars back to North Carolina by expanding Medicaid to ensure better access to health care and better outcomes.




PAC Backed by Embattled Postmaster General Attempts to Rescue Sinking Tillis Candidacy

 

(From NCDP) Senator Thom Tillis was formerly “one of the biggest” beneficiaries of GOP megadonor Louis DeJoy's straw donor scheme, and now he's being propped up by $20 million in support from a DeJoy-backed political action committee. Senator Tillis’ ties to embattled Postal Chief and corrupt GOP donor DeJoy continue to come under further scrutiny after a report in the New York Times revealed that a DeJoy-backed super PAC is now pumping money into “rescuing” Tillis’ flailing reelection campaign. The PAC’s activities are “the latest example of a potential conflict of interest” at the Postal Service on behalf of one of the most vulnerable Republicans up this cycle, and is “the first time in six years” - or since Tillis’ 2014 election campaign - that it has invested in a Senate race.

 

NCDP spokesperson Robert Howard released the following statement: “Senator Tillis’ reelection campaign continues to be shrouded in corruption, and this new report that top officials at the Postal Service are trying to rescue his flailing campaign is just the latest example of Senator Tillis being tied at the hip to corrupt GOP mega donor and UPSP chief Louis DeJoy. Senator Tillis continues to cash in on his ties to corrupt GOP donor and USPS chief Louis DeJoy - taking his money, benefiting from a corrupt straw donor scheme, and now having a super PAC swoop in to rescue him - and in return he’s looking out for DeJoy’s interests in Washington, not North Carolina’s.” 



 





NHCDP Office Now Has Signs and Office Hours 6 Days

 

The New Hanover County Democratic Party office received a lot of Biden Harris signs this weekend and also Cooper signs and other down ballot candidates.

The office is at 5401 New Centre Drive, Wilmington will now be staffed on Monday through Saturday from noon to 2:00 p.m. We will use the office primarily for pick up and drop off of yard signs, blue ballots and similar items. We do not anticipate scheduling meetings there. Our office phone number is (910) 805-5703.  Please wear a mask and observe social distancing. One visitor at a time in the office. Others, please wait in the hall.

 

We received an unexpectedly large number of 4 x 8 foot Biden/Harris signs, and would appreciate your help finding them good homes. If you know a Biden/Harris supporter with property on a highly visible street who might be willing to accept such a sign on their property, please let us know. Also, if you would like to help install the signs, we need one or more volunteers with trucks.

Combined Campaign Virtual Phone Banks for Joe Biden Now Through November 3

 

When: Every day except Monday.

Where: Join Phone Bank and call from home 

 

Team Joe supporters from Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender counties are invited for a virtual phone bank to make phone calls to voters. Training will be provided.

 

Lit Drop for Leslie Cohen  -- Now through October 15

 

When: Now through October 15

Where: Register here to participate.

 

Because of the pandemic, volunteers cannot safely canvass voters as in the past. Instead, the Leslie Cohen for New Hanover County Board of Commissioners campaign needs volunteers to help spread Leslie's message across New Hanover County by lit-dropping in neighborhoods. This can be done on the volunteer's schedule at any time of day, since the campaign isn't trying to reach voters face-to-face. Lit-dropping involves dropping off campaign literature at voters’ homes. Safety is the campaign's biggest priority. Volunteers probably won’t have to interact with anyone as they drop off literature, but they will wear a mask just in case and use gloves and/or carry hand sanitizer to use as needed.

North Carolinian Women for Biden are reaching out to women to talk about why Joe Biden and our Democratic ticket is the right choice for North Carolina. NC Women for Biden will provide the training, camaraderie, and support volunteers needed to text and talk to their friends and family. All volunteers need a fully-charged smartphone, a laptop or computer, and your enthusiasm for Biden Harris 2020.

The Marcia Morgan campaign to turn the NC House 19th District blue ask volunteers to donate time! Donate your time calling potential voters on behalf of Team Marcia. We provide the training, the script, the names and numbers -- violunteers provide the phone and the willingness to help. Multiple shifts are available.

Where: Near the intersection of Military Cutoff and Eastwood Roads near Starbucks

 

Supporters of the Biden/Harris ticket meet Saturdays for peaceful gathering. Bring positive signs and positive energy.

Pick up literature and a voter list at HQ for distribution at your convenience. While you are there, you can spend some time helping to bundle literature. We distributed lit to 6000 voters last weekend. Let's do another 6000 this weekend!


 

New Hanover County Democratic Party Meeting -- October 19

 

When: Monday, October 19, 6:00 p.m.

Where: Zoom meeting 

 

The party will hold a regular meeting to discuss the progress of the election.

 


Third Presidential Debate -- October 22

 

When: Thursday, October 22, 9:00 t0 10:30 p.m.

Where: Belmont University, Nashville, Tennessee

 

If it happens, this debate will be moderated by NBC White House correspondent Kristen Welker. Debates will be available for streaming on C-SPAN and televised on most major news networks.
