Hi it’s Jacquie.

If you watched even a minute of the vice presidential debate, you’ll know why they are such an important part of our democracy. Public debates are a way for the people to see where their candidates stand (and oh, how we were reminded of that as Senator Kamala Harris set the record straight and claimed her time on that debate stage).

My point is, Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike understand the importance of debates. In addition to presidential and vice presidential debates, almost a ll the other competitive Senate races around the country have already held public debates in 2020. Really:

Jamie Harrison and Lindsey Graham
Sara Gideon and Susan Collins
Cal Cunningham and Thom Tillis
Theresa Greenfield and Joni Ernst
John Hickenlooper and Cory Gardner
Mark Kelly and Martha McSally

Here in Mississippi, we’d be having debates, too — if it weren’t for one small problem. Mike has accepted not one, but two invitations for an open debate with Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith on the issues that matter to Mississippians.

Unfortunately, it’s been over 43 days and counting, and Senator Hyde-Smith has yet to accept either of her debate invitations.

Listen, it’s time to show Mississippi voters the respect they deserve and have a debate. So, will you add your name now to help me demand that Senator Cindy-Hyde Smith accept her invitation to debate Mike Espy? [[link removed]]

Yes, Mike is ready to debate. I know, because I’ve seen him preparing. He’s been ready since we got our first invitation months ago.

Remember, this isn’t the first time Mike and Senator Hyde-Smith would debate. When Mike first ran for the U.S. Senate in 2018, our opponent stated that she wants “voters to hear everything we have to say.” She even said, “I enjoy debates.”

So, what is preventing Senator Hyde-Smith from accepting a debate invitation in 2020? What has changed since then? Really makes you wonder.

So, are you with me? Add your name now to demand that Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith accept her debate invitation. Mississippi voters deserve to hear from both candidates running to represent them in Washington. [[link removed]]
