What you should know ahead of tonight's VP debate as VP Pence and Kamala Harris meet in Utah. "Harris is significantly to the left of Joe Biden, the average Democrat, and the average American. All Pence needs to do tonight is get Harris to show that, and he will have made the best possible case for four more years of the Trump administration." (National Review) • What's happening: VP Mike Pence and Sen. Kamala Harris will meet for the vice presidential debate tonight at 9pm Eastern. The two will be seated at separate tables that are 12 feet apart with Plexiglass in between.
The VP debate will be run without commercials. Moderator Susan Page of USA Today will oversee the 90-minute debate, broken into 10-minute segments. Unlike in the first presidential debate, the topics have not been publicly released. • What's at stake: (1) The presidential debate series has special significance in this year's unusual campaign season -- and the same is true for the VP debate. Since 2019, Joe Biden has indicated he'd only serve one presidential term, and President Trump's campaign has suggested he'd merely be a figurehead in a Biden Administration with Harris and the far left truly running the country. (2) Harris' team are trying to keep expectations low. VP Pence is a seasoned national leader and a highly effective debater; it seems that Harris expects him to beat her in the debate match-up. Yesterday, Biden senior campaign advisor emphasized that VP Pence is "a successful debater," and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) went further, saying tonight would be a "challenge."
More upheaval in NC Senate race as Army Reserve investigating "matters involving" Democratic candidate. "The Army Reserve has launched an investigation into Democrat Cal Cunningham in response to a growing sex scandal that exploded last week [...] Simon B. Flake, chief of media relations and public information for the Army Reserve Strategic Communications, said, 'The Army Reserve is investigating the matters involving Lt. Col. James Cunningham. As such, we are unable to provide further details at this time.'" (Daily Wire) • What's happening: The North Carolina Senate race was up-ended last week ... and the updates keep coming.
First Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) was diagnosed with COVID-19 and temporarily closed his campaign office. (We pray for his full and rapid recovery.)
Then his Democratic opponent Cal Cunningham publicly apologized for inappropriate text messages exchanged with a woman who is not his wife. The story has continued to develop, with allegations that the relationship included consensual physical contact.
Now there is an Army Reserve investigation, though the Army Reserve has not provided any details on the investigation or its focus; Cunningham is a member of the Army Reserve.
• What's at stake: The North Carolina Senate race could determine whether Republicans keep control of the Senate in 2021, so any update to the race is critical nationally.
Cunningham initially pledged to remain in the race, but he has ducked public events since then.
We'll keep you updated as this story develops.
There's more good news about President Trump's recovery from COVID-19. "'Conley says there were no detectable levels of antibodies in the president’s labs taken last Thursday, but tests taken Monday have revealed them. Antibodies are a central means by which the human body’s immune system fends off diseases like coronavirus. Conley also mentioned that Trump has been fever-free for four days and symptom free for more than 24 hours." (Daily Caller) President Trump has reportedly been fever-free for four days and symptom-free for more than 24 hours, according to a new report from the Daily Caller. That's great news for the President and for our country!
President Trump has been active on Twitter since his return to the White House, and he has repeatedly expressed eagerness to debate Joe Biden next week.
We continue to keep the President, First Lady, and all those affected by COVID-19 in our prayers.
