All!

Dear NRDC Activist,

The Trump administration and TC Energy (formerly TransCanada) are once
again attempting to move forward with construction on the disastrous,
climate-busting Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

TC Energy has just applied for a permit that will allow them to construct
the KXL pipeline across hundreds of US waterways. Their previous attempt
at doing this through a streamlined general permit was shut down by a
federal court in response to a successful lawsuit from landowner and
environmental groups, including NRDC.

NRDC stands at the ready to challenge this and any other attempt by the
dirty energy company to resurrect KXL, just as we — and our Indigenous and
conservation allies — have done all along.

But in the meantime, Trump's Army Corps of Engineers is accepting public
comments on this new permit request, and we need to flood their inbox with
messages of opposition.

[ [link removed] ]Take a stand NOW: Submit an official public comment urging the Trump
administration to reject this new permit and stop the disastrous Keystone
XL pipeline once and for all.

To put it simply: KXL is a ticking climate time bomb. Tar sands crude oil
releases significantly more greenhouse gas than conventional oil, so this
pipeline would pull us further away from a clean energy future — and
derail progress in the fight against climate change.

Tar sands oil spills are nearly impossible to clean up. And the proposed
route for KXL would imperil drinking water supplies for rural, urban, and
Indigenous communities alike, and pass through a critical aquifer in
Nebraska that provides water for nearly one-third of U.S. crops.

Furthermore, TC Energy and the Trump administration continue to ignore or
downplay the threats Keystone XL pose to Indigenous communities and lands.
And the administration and South Dakota government officials are now
attempting to force Indigenous groups in the state to remove coronavirus
checkpoints — set up to keep infections away from their communities — in
order to clear the way for KXL labor camps.

This is a blatant act of environmental racism.

[ [link removed] ]Please, stand in solidarity with NRDC and our Indigenous allies by
submitting an urgent public comment opposing the disastrous KXL pipeline.

Despite multiple attempts to bring KXL back from the dead, the Trump
administration has yet to carry out the necessary environmental analysis
for the proposed pipeline to move the project forward — and the courts
have ruled against them for this reason. Yet, it appears that the Trump
administration is still trying to rely on outdated and inadequate
environmental review documents to push the project forward, likely because
they know that a legitimate review will only serve to reveal that KXL is
too dangerous to ever see the light of day.

NRDC has been fighting for over a decade — in and out of court — to stop
the construction of this fossil fuel monstrosity. We've won several key
federal court victories that blocked construction on KXL in recent years.
And we will keep fighting tooth-and-nail for as long as it takes to kill
the Keystone XL pipeline.

But right now, we need concerned NRDC activists to submit an urgent public
comment of opposition to the Army Corps of Engineers. [ [link removed] ]Can we count on
