Republicans are working at lightning speed to confirm Amy Coney Barrett, an ultraconservative judge who thinks the ACA is unconstitutional and wants to overturn Roe v. Wade, to the Supreme Court.

Democrats are asking that Senate Republicans respect the norms set in 2016, when Mitch McConnell blocked Merrick Garland’s nomination in an election year.

Let’s not delude ourselves. They don’t care what we think. We cannot tie our hands with antiquated norms that the Republican Party has long since abandoned.

If we want to save the Affordable Care Act, preserve a woman’s right to choose, protect LGBTQ+ rights, and have any shot at addressing the climate crisis, then expanding the Supreme Court is our only option.

I’m excited to lead on issues of judicial reform when I get to Congress.
