Up From Slavery

What to Know: The New York Times’s 1619 Project attempts to reframe all of American history as the outcome of slavery.

The TPPF Take: The story of America is much more than the story of slavery and its consequences.

“America did not invent slavery, nor did it introduce slavery to the continent,” says TPPF’s Tom Lindsay. “America is not unique in having the sin of slavery in its history; it is unique, however, in being the only nation ‘dedicated to the proposition that ‘all men are created equal.’”

Climate Catastrophe

What to Know: In CNN’s seven-hour town hall for Democratic presidential candidates, climate change was spoken of in ever-more apocalyptic terms.

The TPPF Take: It’s amazing what the candidates failed to mention in the town hall.

“Here’s what you didn’t hear—that America is actually an environmental leader,” says TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “The United States the only highly populated country to meet the World Health Organization’s standards for safe air, and we’re No. 1 in the world for access to clean water.”

Black Entrepreneurship in Texas

What to Know: The number of black-owned businesses in Texas has more than doubled in the past 10 years.

The TPPF Take: Texas is a great place to start and grow a business, for everyone.

“As more and more African-Americans start their own companies, it’s vital that we keep Texas business-friendly,” says TPPF’s Bradford Traywick. “That means low taxes, reasonable regulation and more opportunity for businesses—and families—to prosper.”
