Hey John,
Join us at this week's Meetup: How to be an "Original" where the Social Movement Bookclub Circle will be sharing what they learned reading the book, "Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World." Come learn more about who you are and who you can be! Meetups happen every Saturday at 11:00am at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are colored in blue and community events are colored in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Monday, September 9th, 8:30am: Pack the Courtroom for Open Rescue Activists - On Monday, June 3rd, 79 activists were arrested during a mass action at a Sonoma County slaughterhouse. Some activists chained themselves together or locked themselves to the entrance gate or conveyor belt and others used their bodies to block the gate. Jonathan Frohnmayer and Rachel Ziegler are going to court September 9th to hear the judge's decision on a motion filed by their attorneys to dismiss their new charges associated with this action. We need YOU to come to court *in your blue DxE shirt* and show your support for these activists. Meet us inside the courthouse at 600 Administration Drive in Santa Rosa.
- Monday, September 9th, 6:30pm: Support the Right to Rescue Resolution in Berkeley - The Berkeley Peace and Justice Commission will be discussing a right to rescue resolution which would state that Berkeley City Council is in support of the six activists facing felony charges in Sonoma County. If passed, this would be a big step in establishing the right to rescue animals. We need YOU to come and show support for the Right to Rescue! Please bring a blue DxE shirt and meet us at 2180 Milvia Street 1st Floor, Cypress Room.
- Saturday, September 14th, 12:30pm: Postering for the Animal Liberation California Convergence - The Animal Liberation California Convergence (ALCC) is just around the corner! We need your help to do some important promoting to get the word out about the Convergence and get people out there, involved, inspired, and mobilized for animal liberation! As soon as the Meetup ends at 12:30pm we will be going out in small groups to go put up posters advertising the ALCC all around Berkeley!
- Saturday, September 14th, 1:00pm: Liberation not Deportation: Workshop & Fundraiser - This event is a fundraiser for Breiny Alicia Aguilar Morataya who is a refugee from Guatemala and survivor of awful violence, extortion and sexual abuse. She's seeking asylum in the US but remains in ICE detention. At this workshop we will learn how US imperialism and climate change are forcing Central Americans to leave their homes in search of a livable life. We will hear the personal stories of our friends who have made the journey. Suggested donation $10 (to support Breiny's ICE bond) but no one is turned away for lack of funds. There will be food! 🍪🌯🥗
- Sunday, September 15th, 2:00pm: ALCC 2019 Volunteer Training - The Animal Liberation California Convergence (ALCC) is a huge undertaking that requires dozens of volunteers. If you are taking on any volunteer roles, or wish to help out, this orientation and training is for you!
