Refugee Resilience and Mental Health During COVID-19

Hailing from countries with extreme hardships in the form of war, dictatorships,
and oppression, refugees often show true resilience, rebuilding their lives
despite the adversities they have faced. One of the main pillars of HIAS’ work
is to help our refugee clients work through the psychological distress they have
experienced in order to settle into their new communities. Join us in marking
World Mental Health Day and learn more about how HIAS and our partners build
community-based mental health programming for refugees, and how this work has
evolved during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Amid the largest refugee crisis in recorded history, the U.S. has slammed its
doors on tens of thousands of refugees. The future of refugee resettlement and
asylum hinge on the positions of the leaders we elect in November, and we are
calling on all candidates from all political parties in all parts of the country
to commit to welcoming refugees. During this “action call” we’ll hear stories
from refugees and activists impacted by anti-refugee policies, and map out a
plan for these last few weeks before the election.
