I'm a 30-year-old DC native with seven siblings and a mother who immigrated from Senegal and became a public school teacher. I develop affordable housing units and commercial real estate in the District. I've led protests for racial justice and more equitable community investments. If elected, I would be the first Muslim lawmaker in DC’s history.
I'm running a people-powered campaign for an open At-Large seat on the DC Council against 20 other candidates, because our halls of government need more people who have experienced police abuse and are willing to address the structural inequalities that plague our government.
You might think -- wait a minute... a real estate developer? Running a people-powered campaign? Well, I got into this business after watching realtors buy up my mother's black-owned block. It's completely gentrified now. And as they say --"If you don't have a seat at the table, you're probably on the menu."
At its core, this campaign is about justice and opportunity . How do we create a more equitable DC? How do we rectify the wealth gap and fix racial disparities between Black and White DC residents? Between renters and homeowners? How do we create new economic opportunities for those who have been historically disenfranchised?
