I can't stop thinking about this: When asked if he would commit to a peaceful transfer of power after November's election, President Trump said, "We're going to have to see what happens."
Trump's response is chilling -- and I'm fighting back. I'm pushing Administration nominees to reject the President's threats in public hearings; speaking out on the Senate floor; and doing all I can in this historic election.
The peaceful transfer of power is one of the cornerstones of our democracy.
Of course, Trump has shown a complete disregard for our democratic values and the dignity of the Oval Office at every turn, and every step of the way, he is backed up by his allies in Washington:
For months, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said there was "no urgency" for further relief aid for American families and workers in the middle of the pandemic, but when presented with a new vacancy on the Supreme Court, McConnell jumped into action to rush through Trump's SCOTUS nominee.
Under Trump's leadership, the EPA has denied science and rolled back hundreds of environmental protections. Most recently, the EPA rejected scientific evidence that shows a connection between a pesticide and stunted brain development in children, prioritizing the interests of Trump's corporate friends over the health of American children.
This election isn't just about winning or losing. American lives are literally at stake.
It's more important than ever to flip the Senate with Democrats who will be a check on Trump's power. And with the last FEC end-of-quarter deadline of the election coming up, Democrats are counting on our grassroots support right now.
