The Vote

With 39 days to Election Day 2020, here's the news that you'll want to know:

(1) new polls show the 2020 presidential race tightening

(2) White House highlights concerning ballot security issues in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania -- plus more than 130 ballot tampering and election fraud charges filed in Texas

(3) Democrats upset by Biden's time off the campaign trail (spoiler: he's only made 12 trips outside Delaware in the past 45 days)

New polls show 2020 presidential race tightening -- and President Trump has the momentum.

"Biden’s once formidable lead in Florida has vanished and the state appears to be a toss-up once again. The polls are all over the place in Arizona, although several recent surveys show the candidates within 1 or 2 points of each other. North Carolina has long been headed for a photo finish." (The Hill)

• What's happening: A round-up from The Hill show recent polling trend shows a tightening presidential race, as Joe Biden's lead over President Trump continues to shrink in critical states.

-- Florida: Biden's average is down from an 8.4-point lead to a 1.3-point lead.

-- North Carolina: toss-up (or, in The Hill's words, "photo finish")

-- Arizona: Biden's average is down from a 5.7-point lead to a 3.2-point lead.

-- Georgia: toss-up

-- Ohio: Biden has a 1-point lead

• What's at stake: The 2020 election, of course, though we don't expect to know the final results until after November 3rd.

(1) This polling update shows the momentum is likely in favor of President Trump -- just as happened in 2016 after Hillary Clinton led the race all summer.

(2) Analysts have warned of "hidden" or "shy" Trump supporters, which could mean that current polls -- which are quite close -- actually undercount support for President Trump.

The theory: due to the outrageous and unprecedented attacks on President Trump and his supporters from the left, Americans who support the President are unwilling to share that, even in a political poll.

That theory is reinforced by President Trump's surprising victory in 2016 and the sustained "enthusiasm gap" between President Trump's and Biden's campaigns.

Concerning stories about ballot, election security issues in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Texas.

"'The president wants to get rid of mass mail-out voting,' [White House Press Secretary Kayleigh] McEnany said. 'He's said clearly that could go either way, it could damage either candidate's chances because it is a system that is subject to fraud.' She also cited a case in Greenville, Wis., where three trays of mail were reportedly found in a ditch, local affiliate Fox 11 reported." (The Hill)

• What's happening: While Democrats and the media continue to pretend that the concerns of President Trump and Republicans about ballot security are totally invented, reality tells a different story.

Yesterday White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany highlighted two concerning stories during her press briefing:

-- In Pennsylvania: Nine ballots from U.S. service members were found "discarded" in one county. Of the nine, seven were votes for President Trump.

-- In Wisconsin: Three trays of mail, including absentee ballots, were found in a ditch in Wisconsin this past Monday. The U.S. Postal Service confirmed it had started an investigation into it.

And here's another story we'd flag for you:

-- In Texas: Four people face a collective 134 felony charges (as in, 134 charges across all four individuals -- not 134 for each individual) related to alleged ballot tampering and election fraud in a 2018 Democratic primary.

Allegedly, the four "targeted young, able-bodied voters to cast ballots by mail by fraudulently claiming the voters were 'disabled,' in most cases without the voters’ knowledge or consent."

• What's at stake:

(1) First, and most important, Americans must be able to vote in free, fair elections -- with 100% confidence their vote is counted and 0% confusion about election rules and procedures.

(2) While President Trump and Republicans have tried to enforce existing election rules and ballot security issues, groups on the left are:

-- filing lawsuits to change voting rules and procedures, including safeguards previously put in place like ballot signature verification and due dates for mail-in ballots

-- totally fine with Hillary Clinton warning Joe Biden to "not concede under any circumstances"

-- creating a sense of crisis for their own political gain around the 2020 presidential election, as this National Review piece notes: "Democrats have spent weeks — years, really — contending that Trump simply can’t win the election legitimately. They claimed, without any genuine evidence, that he never won it in the first place. [...] In their 'war games,' Democrats were happy to let the military decide the election after convincing governors to threaten secession. During the impeachment trial, Democrats argued that if Republicans didn’t remove the president, the 2020 seat was already stolen. So spare us the theatrics."

Democrats concerned about Joe Biden's time off the campaign trail.

"Since his Aug. 11 selection of California Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate, Biden has had 22 days where he either didn't make public appearances, held only virtual fundraisers or ventured from his Delaware home solely for church, according to an Associated Press analysis of his schedules. He made 12 visits outside of Delaware during that period, including a trip to Washington scheduled for Friday to pay respects to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg." (Fox News)

• What's happening: Democrats' complaints about Joe Biden's absence from the campaign trail are getting louder. As Fox News noted, he's spent 22 of the past 45 days without public campaign appearances and/or only doing virtual fundraisers, and he has only made 12 trips outside of Delaware in the same time period.

Yesterday, President Trump brought quieter stories about Biden's bizarre campaign schedule to the national forefront with a tweet.

As President Trump has weighed in with a pithy tweet (read it here): "Sleepy Joe Biden just closed down his campaign for the day (Again). Wants to rest! He is a very LOW ENERGY INDIVIDUAL, and our Country cannot make it in these exciting, but complex and competitive times, with a Low Energy President !!!"

• What's at stake: This won't be the deciding issue of the 2020 election, but it highlights two potential broader trends.

(1) Biden's low-key campaign strategy is starting to concern Democrats.

As the chair of the Texas Democratic Party said bluntly, Biden not traveling due to COVID was a "pretty lame excuse." Then he added: "I thought he had his own plane. He doesn't have to sit with one space between another person on a commercial airline like I would."

And Biden's minimal-personal-contact style has led the campaign to abandon door-to-door campaigning, even in battleground states ... while fellow Democrats in other races are now doing their own outreach.

(2) Biden is making the case for President Trump's criticism: that Biden is not up to the job of president. Expect to see that brought up in next Tuesday's presidential debate.

While there's no rule for how many campaign events a presidential candidate must do, it's bizarre -- and, potentially, unprecedented in modern times? -- for a candidate to spend nearly so much time off the trail (including almost this entire week) so close to the election.

Either way, don't expect the mainstream media to ask any questions as they continue their quest to see Biden elected president in November.
