Dear John, As part of our ongoing voter mobilization and election information campaign, American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC) is providing you with weekly updates on the imminent 2020 election. Strong leadership is needed to ensure a fair, free election, and ASBC strongly supports all business leaders who are encouraging their communities, employees and other stakeholders to get out the vote. For a look at what one ASBC member is doing, we’re highlighting Seventh Generation’s exciting, comprehensive voter engagement campaign. We hope it’s a model that inspires you! ASBC’s own campaign has brought attention to pivotal issues, including questionable moves by the United States Postal Service (USPS) in the face of high vote-by-mail demand anticipated this fall. Due to recent serious concerns about USPS operational capability to adequately serve the American people in the upcoming November election, a U.S. District Court Judge in New York has ordered USPS to treat all election mail as priority. To comply with the sensitive timeline, USPS workers are allowed to work overtime and make extra deliveries. Furthermore, U.S District Court Judge Victor Marrero signaled that President Donald Trump and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy created confusion within the USPS after the introduction of operative changes, a situation that might result in distrust towards the agency’s reliability to handle absentee ballots and discourage register voters to participate. Reacting to Judge Marrero’s decision, ASBC Board Secretary Michael Peck said, “This judicial decision is especially important to Cooperative Community Coalition efforts, including 1worker1vote, to galvanize support for the USPS from Coalition members and all co-op worker-owners in relation to USPS’s crucial last-mile delivery service, especially throughout underserved rural and urban America.” Upcoming Dates: - States with registration deadlines 10/2-10/5: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas
