This week, we reached out to you about our campaign to raise $125,000 during the High Holidays in support of refugees and asylum seekers. Today, I’d like to share exactly why this goal is so important:

1. There are at least 79.5 million forcibly displaced people around the world — the highest in recorded history. And this year, the crisis has grown worse as unprecedented challenges from the pandemic have compounded existing hardships for refugees and asylum seekers.
2. But as the refugee crisis balloons in numbers, the Trump administration has enacted legal changes to prevent refugees from finding safety in the United States, leaving many displaced families without access to adequate food, medical care, or other vital resources — and they urgently need our help.
3. This is why our High Holidays match is so important: Before tomorrow’s deadline, every gift you make will be DOUBLED to fuel our life-changing programs and help refugees build new lives in freedom and safety, throughout the pandemic and beyond.

Every day during this global health crisis, HIAS has worked to make sure refugees and asylum seekers can build new lives in safety and freedom. But with just over 24 hours until our match expires, we’re still falling $20,272 short, and we’re counting on your generous support to help us reach our goal.
