These have been difficult times for us. The last few weeks especially so. Thousands across the state and up and down the west coast have lost their homes or businesses.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to extend my condolences to everyone who has lost their life-long hard work in this terrible disaster.

Please make sure you have the information to keep yourself safe. If you haven't done so already, please head to the Public Alerts site and sign up to receive alerts if you're in an impacted area.

The state of Oregon has also put together a website to offer live updates on the fires, the containment effort, and to connect folks to resources to get through the disaster. You can find that page here.

Even once the fires are out, we've got a long way to recovery. Statewide, about 300 miles of our roads and highways are closed to travel. The Oregon Department of Transportation has reported that we'll need to remove hundreds of thousands of trees (as well as examine road surfaces, bridges, roadside landscapes, gutters, and other bits of critical infrastructure) before we can reopen them safely.

Above all, though, we'll be working to support our neighbors who've suffered the most in the fires. I'm proud to have joined with my friends in the Oregon delegation to raise money for relief organizations on the ground providing food, shelter, and immediate assistance to those affected by the fires. Together, our grassroots movement has already raised more than $500,000 for wildfire relief. If you are able, can you chip in $13 and help us continue the impact?

At times like this, it's all the more important that we look out for one another. I'm glad you're on the team.
