Roderick Walker was just an innocent man getting a ride with his girlfriend. What should have been a routine rideshare experience almost turned deadly, and what for? Sadly, we all know the answer to this question. Even though he wasn’t even driving the vehicle that was pulled over, Roderick almost became another case study in the discrimination and brutalization of black men at the hands of police.

Now we know that Deputy Brandon Myers, the officer responsible for brutally beating Roderick, had several prior use-of-force complaints against him that the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office initially tried to hide from the public.

Friend, we need effective police reform in Georgia NOW.

But similar to the federal levels of government, our state legislature’s Republicans are either blocking or watering down any attempts at meaningful, healthy change to how our police departments operate.
