John,
With you, and with all Americans, we are still mourning the heartbreaking loss
of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was everything we want our daughters to be.
After graduating from Columbia Law School in 1959, unable to find a clerkship,
Ginsburg instead forged her own trail. She became an outspoken advocate and
legal mastermind, climbing her way to our nation's highest court where she
would shape landmark decisions for an entire generation.
Justice Ginsburg leaves behind a nation with an ever-widening partisan gap
that was unfamiliar to her. She famously had a deep connection and lasting
friendship with the late Justice Scalia, her ideological foe. Critical to the
fabric of our democracy is the ability to aggressively fight for and defend
your beliefs while enjoying and celebrating the apolitical ties that bind us
all. Ruth embodied that ability.

Ruth left an indelible mark on our society. We say goodbye to a giant, and to
a foregone era of American politics that saw more bridges built than burned.
