Friends,

The American people lost a champion for equal rights and justice last night.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an icon and an inspiration. Only the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court, she was a legendary advocate for women's equality and wrote some of the Court's most important opinions on gender discrimination. She was unwavering in her advocacy for vulnerable and marginalized people in America.

She helped shape our country into a more equal and just place. I am forever grateful for her strength and her power. And in her memory and her honor, we will fight.

On her deathbed, she said: "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."

I am calling on Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell to follow their own precedent and not fill this vacancy on the Supreme Court until 2021. There is too much at stake, and the American people deserve a voice at this turning point in our nation's history.

It's time to fight with everything we have and vote like everything is at stake - because it is.

In solidarity,

- David
