Friend,

We have lost one of America's greatest patriots.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's enormous legacy cannot be measured in a single decision or case but in the totality of her tremendous life. She was our greatest champion for upholding women's access to health care, voting rights, and equality under the law for the LGBTQ community.

Our heartbreak at the loss of Justice Ginsburg -- already a tragedy for the ages -- will increase exponentially if the U.S. Senate confirms a new justice before the American people decide on our next president. Decades of progress could be lost, and it could be detrimental to millions of lives.

And it would be the height of hypocrisy for Mitch McConnell to allow it. Remember when he stole President Obama's last Supreme Court justice by refusing to allow the Senate to vote? McConnell has already committed to bringing President Trump's nominee to a vote anyway -- a promise he made just a few hours after Justice Ginsburg passed last night.

I hope there are enough Republicans left in the Senate who have the integrity to block this Trump appointment. The voice of the American people will be heard, and we will not allow this seat to be filled -- and RBG's legacy to be tarnished -- by Donald Trump's hateful agenda.

That commitment is what will spur my action for the next 45 days. I hope it will inspire yours, too.

Very truly yours,

Jay
