Surrey Heath's Integrated Care Team: At the start of August, I was delighted to visit Surrey Heath’s Integrated Care Team in Camberley, which I had nominated for a NHS Parliamentary Award in the category of Excellence in Healthcare. I was hugely impressed by the fantastic work they are doing. The team provides an incredible service, and is a shining example of what can be achieved with the right approach to caring. ‘Be Independent’ campaign: The Square Camberley has launched its ‘Be Independent’ campaign, seeking one lucky independent entrepreneur who will win the chance to trade at the shopping centre for six months free of charge. Many entrepreneurs find it challenging to expand their businesses and, in conjunction with Surrey Heath Borough Council, the ‘Be Independent’ campaign aims to encourage local entrepreneurs to build upon their current independent business, and trade within the Camberley shopping centre between November 2019 and April 2020. Targeting both independent and pop-up stores, the ‘Be Independent’ campaign is now inviting businesses to pitch to win the opportunity to trade. Entries close on 15 September, and you can find more information here.

Heathrow Expansion: Heathrow launched its latest consultation on 18 June to seek views about its preferred masterplan for expansion; changes to its runway operations; how it will manage effects from the airport’s expansion; and the compensation policies and ways in which it proposes to mitigate the effects on surrounding areas. Heathrow recently held a Consultation Event in Camberley on 13 August, but to provide residents with a further opportunity to learn more about this Consultation and ask questions, I asked Heathrow to arrange a Q&A on Friday, 6 September, between 6.30 - 7.30 pm at All Saints' Church Hall, Broadway Road, Lightwater, Surrey GU18 5SJ. Sadly, I am unable to chair the Q&A on this occasion, but the former Mayor of Surrey Heath, John May, has kindly agreed to take my place. Please note that this particular Consultation does not include further information on flight paths. It will close on 13 September, and you can submit your views at this website.
Abbeywood Care Home: I had the pleasure of visiting Abbeywood Care Home in Ash Vale, which has been rated as Outstanding by the CQC. I was delighted to meet Christine Butler, Deputy Manager for the service, Chris Hastings, Area Director, and Cllr Sinead Mooney, Cabinet Member for Adults and Health at Surrey County Council, to learn more about the home and those it cares for. I also greatly enjoyed having a cup of tea with the residents.
Esso Pipeline update: Following my email to the Planning Inspectorate at the end of July, I met once again with local Councillors and with two representatives from the community in Lightwater affected by Esso's proposed route through Turf Hill. I have written to Esso and to Natural England to raise their considerable concerns, and I will post an update on my website once I have received responses.
