Dear John,
On Tuesday, a major fire on the island of Lesvos destroyed Moria refugee camp, Europe's largest, leaving most of its more than 12,000 asylum seekers and refugees homeless with nowhere to turn.
We are heartbroken by this crisis. These families, including many children, now find themselves displaced in the midst of a pandemic. Additionally, refugees in Greece face mounting hardships as new governmental regulations seek to restrict refugee organizations from helping asylum seekers.
Thankfully, HIAS Greece staff members are all safe and able to provide critical assistance to those affected on Lesvos, but more resources are urgently needed. So today, we’re asking for your immediate support as our teams in Greece respond to this emergency: Will you give $18 or more right now to provide urgently needed resources to refugees and asylum seekers in Greece and around the world?

Displaced families fled from their tents Sept. 9 after a large fire gutted the Moria refugee camp on Lesvos, Greece.
Since 2016, HIAS Greece has helped asylum seekers secure legal status in an environment with limited legal resources for refugees. We’re also advocating for the rights of the forcibly displaced and their need for legal protection – and we’re providing refugees with referrals for services such as medical care.
HIAS will never back down from supporting refugees and asylum seekers – no matter the difficulties they face. But this work isn’t possible without your backing, so we hope we can count on you for a lifesaving donation today:
Thank you so much. Your support means everything.
