Earlier this week, a courageous whistleblower named Dawn Wooten revealed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been performing mass hysterectomies on detained immigrants. 1

If it sounds like a horror show, that's because it is. It's barbaric. It's dehumanizing. And it has a direct, frightening correlation with authoritarianism.

These utterly unconscionable acts of racism and violence are rooted in white supremacy and are designed to render us speechless. To make us recoil and avert our eyes. It's crucial to resist that urge — and take action to stop these atrocities.

Part of our commitment to combating white supremacy means being an active ally and lifting up our partners in the racial justice, reproductive justice, and immigrant rights movements. Now is the time to take action.

These human rights abuses aren't unprecedented: The United States has a long, violent, and recent history of forced sterilization targeting Black and Indigenous communities, Latinxs and Puerto Ricans, incarcerated people, and people with disabilities. They are evidence of the grip white supremacy has on our nation and the manifestation of an agenda of power and control over others. 2

Now it's happening again — by our government — as part of Trump's anti‑choice, anti‑immigrant agenda. This administration's appetite for cruelty is insatiable: Detaining pregnant people, separating thousands of immigrant children from their parents at the border, and putting kids in cages.

There is simply no low these extremists won’t sink to if it means advancing their agenda of power and control.

We know that true reproductive freedom means that every person can make their own decisions about their lives, bodies, and futures — but that isn’t possible as long as these violent systems of oppression continue.
