Dear John
I wanted to share something with you that’s very close to my heart. Today we’re launching a new podcast: To See Each Other.
We launched this project because the story told in the media about
rural America is unhelpful and hurtful, and too often it leaves out the
beautiful work done by people fighting for a better future.
The
people who control the oppressive systems in our culture want us to
believe that there’s no hope for change. If that’s true, there’s no
reason to talk to anyone about our struggles, and no reason to ask for
help. This is the way it’s going to be, and help is a dream. And there’s
certainly no reason for us to talk to people who disagree with us.
I
don’t think that’s true. I know so many people in rural communities
fighting for a future where we protect the dignity of every person and
where it’s possible for everyone to reach their full potential. Where
people are fighting for the land, for clean water, to end white
supremacy. And I’ve seen firsthand that when we authentically reach out
to the people who haven’t yet joined these fights i, good things happen.
To See Each Other is
a six-episode series that will introduce you to the people in rural
communities doing the work to build a bigger we in this country. Their
stories are full of struggle and determination, and I know they’ll bring
you the same rush of hope they have given me.
Because, when we see each other, we can change the world.
