Dear John, As we continue into our voter and election campaign, we have some updates we’d like to share. First, we are making available an opportunity to pledge with us on voting this season to all responsible businesses, which can be found here. If your business has or is planning to do any of the four listed objectives below, we would be thrilled to uplift your company and share your work with our community. - Send a company-wide email in September, outlining the importance of voting as part of greater civic duty and its importance to democratic process;
- Voluntarily give paid time off for voting to all employees. The ASBC recommends at least two hours of paid time off, if not the full day.
- Offer non-partisan information to all employees and stakeholder groups of voter registration and deadlines by state, all of which can be found here;
- Offer paid time off for employees to volunteer as poll-workers in their local areas;
Second, we have less than a month to get voters registered in 17 states which require voter registration by the weekend of October 2nd - October 5th. We are calling on businesses in the following states, to prioritize getting the word out to register those in your community, including all stakeholder groups and employees. We have provided an email template here, which your business or organization can use to send out broadly through your networks States with registration deadlines 10/2-10/5: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas Check out our email template here! As always, the ASBC believes that sustainability in the social and governance aspects is as much a priority for our members as the environmental aspects, and we are thrilled to support the good work of many brands and companies. It is crucial that companies prioritize voter registration, voter access and supporting poll-worker recruitment as part of their overall CSR and sustainability strategy. Make voting the central theme of your sustainability outreach this election season and make sure you have a plan of how to vote this November. | |
