John,
As you're probably aware, Oregon is experiencing another historic and devastating wildfire season. The hot, dry, windy weather has fueled wildfires across our state that are adding to the ongoing consequences of a global pandemic. It's important we all take at least a moment to prepare and make sure we're keeping ourselves and our communities safe.

Many of our communities are facing evacuation--from Southern Oregon, to the central Cascades and Washington County. The Oregon Department of Forestry keeps an up-to-date forest fire map ([link removed]), which also links to information on where restrictions are. You can find daily updates on their blog ([link removed]).

If you need assistance due to evacuation, find a Red Cross location ([link removed]) near you. They've set up the following temporary evacuation points, which are currently staffed by volunteers:

Thurston High School 333 58th St. Springfield
Deschutes Co. Fairgrounds 3800 SW Airport Way, Redmond
Oregon State Fairgrounds 2330 17th St NE, Salem
Glide Middle School 18990 N Umpqua Hwy Glide
Kla-Mo-Ya Casino 34333 US-97, Chiloquin
Colton High School 30205 S Wall St, Colton

If you are able, please consider volunteering.

And with extreme fire danger in much of our state, please be vigilant and especially conscientious right now to prevent starting a fire. The Office of the State Fire Marshal ([link removed]) offers all the information you need to prevent and prepare for a fire.

Thank you to the firefighters working around the clock to contain the fires and keep us safe, and to the lineworkers, the first responders and volunteers standing up for the people and communities that are affected.

Be safe.

Ellen
