Team,
When I was 16 I got my first job at Dairy Queen. I made minimum wage — $4.25 an hour. After Dairy Queen, I worked at Whataburger. My parents taught me the value of earning a day’s wages, and I was proud to work for my paycheck.
But today the minimum wage in Texas is barely enough to get by.
Every year the cost of living goes up, but the minimum wage hasn’t increased in over a decade. Texas families living on minimum wage jobs can barely make rent and put food on the table.
It’s time for a universal $15 minimum wage. We can show our workers how much we value their contributions to our economy by not forcing them to live off crumbs.
I hope you enjoy your Labor Day, and to all those hard working Texans — thanks for everything you do.
