John, It's Becca.

Okay. I have to talk about this because I genuinely cannot believe this is where we are.

Yesterday, Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America.”

Yes. Really.

I promise you, in all my conversations with Vermonters about what they need from their government, not one person has ever pulled me aside and said, “Becca, please do something about the name of Lake Ontario.”

You know what people DO talk to me about?

Groceries. Gas. Rent. Healthcare. Childcare. Whether there’s enough money left in the checking account after the bills clear.

Donald Trump ran for president promising to bring costs down. Instead, Americans are watching their grocery bills climb while he spends his time on a giant White House ballroom, obsessing over the Reflecting Pool, and now apparently rebranding the Great Lakes.

Come on now. This is just getting ridiculous.

If you’re as fed up as I am watching this administration waste time on vanity projects while families are struggling to afford the basics, chip in $10, $25, or whatever makes sense today. Help me keep fighting for a government that actually has its priorities straight. [[link removed]]

ENOUGH WITH THE VANITY PROJECTS! [[link removed]]

Here’s the part that really gets me. There are families standing in grocery store aisles right now doing mental math. Maybe we skip the meat this week. Maybe we put that back. Maybe we can stretch this until payday.

There are people seeing the total at the gas pump and wincing. People postponing a doctor’s appointment because they cannot afford another bill. Parents trying to figure out how to make childcare work without blowing up the family budget.

Lake Ontario was doing just fine. It did not need a rebrand or an executive order. And frankly, the American people deserve a government with priorities more serious than whatever happens to be flattering Donald Trump’s ego that afternoon.

I’m in Congress because I believe government should actually make people’s lives better. Lower healthcare costs. More affordable housing. Strong public schools. Good-paying jobs. An economy where buying groceries does not require a strategy session.

That work may not come with a giant gold sign. And I’m okay with that. But it does take people willing to fight for it.

So if you’re tired of watching Donald Trump waste everyone’s time on monuments to himself while families are getting squeezed, I’m asking you to stand with me. Pitch in $5, $10, $25, or whatever you can today and help me keep fighting for a government that puts working people ahead of one man’s ego. [[link removed]]

And for the record: I’ll still be calling it Lake Ontario with the rest of you.

— Becca
