Team – Happy Labor Day!
The American labor movement was the fuel for so many of the workers’ rights we all value today – including the right to a safe workplace and benefits like paid leave and unemployment insurance. Today, those rights are more important than ever as we face record unemployment amid a global pandemic.
Many Americans have lost their jobs and are struggling to make ends meet. Many others have had to find alternative ways to make their work possible virtually, or with reduced hours. And then there are the essential workers – those who have continued to go to work every day in hospitals, caring for the sick, or in grocery stores and schools, keeping our communities moving forward. They are American heroes!
We must recognize the sacrifices of these working families – today and every day. We owe it to every worker and union member out there who helped build the American middle class to continue to push for an economy that works for all Americans, not just corporations or special interests.
I am grateful to be your voice and to stand up for Rhode Island workers every single day. I’m proud to have the support of workers and labor unions – their fight is a reminder of why I came to Congress in the first place.
I hope you are enjoying the long weekend – stay safe.
